Improving Government Transparency

As a Co-Chair of the bipartisan House Transparency Caucus, I recently hosted a meeting to discuss the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee (PRAC). The duties of the PRAC include preventing and detecting waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement and mitigating risks. As many have been concerned about the disbursement of COVID-19 relief funds, it is important for Congress to continue to provide oversight.

Lead Poisoning Prevention Week

This week marks National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week. Recently, I introduced bipartisan legislation to strengthen federal initiatives aimed at childhood lead screening, reporting, and prevention. Alarmingly, the Department of Health and Human Services Inspector General recently reported that more than a third of Medicaid-enrolled children are not receiving blood lead screening tests.

Pursuing Energy Solutions

This week, I took to the House floor to discuss surging energy and gas prices. Legislation that would address many of these issues still languish in committees as Speaker Pelosi refuses to bring solutions forward in the House. Instead, the bills considered in the House, including some of the massive spending proposals, would worsen the problems many Americans are facing. To see my remarks, please click here.

Biden's Big Spending Plan

Earlier this week, President Biden announced a new framework for his spending plan, but it is just as radical—both in terms of cost and content—as the previous version. The massive spending package, which comes in at over 1,500 pages, relies on a variety of tax increases, budget gimmicks, and will increase the deficit by trillions. This out of control spending will only worsen inflation at a time we need to refocus attention on issues like creating jobs, reducing burdensome regulations, and fixing supply chain backlogs. More Troubling Economic News

This week, the U.S. Department of Commerce released data showing economic growth slowed significantly in the third quarter. The GDP growth rate came in far lower that expected, and at the slowest pace since the pandemic recovery began. The report is the latest piece of evidence that President Biden has mishandled the economic recovery, and is instead advancing extreme policies that are making the cost of living more expensive. In fact, as the price of food and key ingredients continue to rise, the New York Times recently reported that this year's Thanksgiving is "shaping up to be the most expensive meal in the history of the holiday."
