House Passes My Historic Parental Rights Bill

House Passes My Historic Parental Rights Bill

Parents must always have a seat at the table when it comes to decisions impacting their children. On Wednesday, I spoke on the House floor in favor of, and the House passed my bill, the Stopping Indoctrination and Protecting Kids Act, which ensures parents remain involved in key choices affecting their children at school. The legislation would strip federal funds from elementary and secondary schools if the school changes a student’s pronouns, preferred name, or facility accommodations without parental consent and prohibit the use of federal funds to promote gender ideology in schools. For too long, schools have pushed political agendas on children, advancing social viewpoints and ideologies that parents are unaware of and have not consented to. This legislation would play an important part in ensuring parents remain at the forefront of decisions regarding their child's education.

Preserving the Health of the Great Lakes

The Great Lakes are central to our way of life in Michigan, but for years, invasive species throughout the Great Lakes and across our nation have imposed billions of dollars in damages, threatening fisheries, aquatic habitats, and irrigation systems. That is why, I was proud to introduce the Aquatic Invasive Species Control and Prevention Act on Tuesday. This bipartisan legislation would modernize efforts and streamline coordination to help prevent, control, and eradicate invasive species so we can protect our fisheries, boating access, and water infrastructure. The Great Lakes are an important part of Michigan's identity, and I am committed to prioritizing legislation that will allow Michiganders to enjoy all of the resources the Great Lakes have for generations to come.

Lowering Housing Costs

America faces a housing shortage of well over 4 million homes, driving up costs for families. To make the American Dream of homeownership a reality, I voted for the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. This bipartisan legislation would expand housing supply to lower costs for Michigan families by reducing regulatory barriers, modernizing federal housing programs, and strengthening local lending capacity to support new development. The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act builds on the successful efforts of the Working Families Tax Cuts, which reinstated the Mortgage Insurance Premium tax deduction to save first-time homebuyers thousands of dollars a year on their taxes. Please know that I remain committed to lowering costs for hardworking Michiganders

Supporting Reliable Energy

Access to reliable and affordable energy sources is an important part of preserving America's energy independence and lowering costs for everyday Americans. I recently had the opportunity to tour the Fermi II site, where I enjoyed learning more about their daily operations. During my time in Congress, I have been a supporter of an all-above energy approach to ensure that businesses and families in our communities have access to reliable energy sources. I remain committed to promoting American energy dominance, so we have the energy we need to grow our economy and thrive.

Honoring our Heroes

This Memorial Day, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our great nation. Today and every day, we recognize the courage, dedication, and selfless service of our fallen heroes. While we all enjoy this weekend with friends and family, please take a moment to honor those who helped preserve our freedom.
