Honoring our Heroes

Honoring our Heroes

This Memorial Day weekend, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our great nation. Thank you to our fallen heroes who gave everything for our freedom.  While we enjoy a beautiful Michigan weekend with friends and family, take a moment to honor those who helped preserve our freedom.

Combating Antisemitism

In recent weeks, we have seen antisemitism and violence rage on college campuses across the country. As a member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, I had the opportunity to ask President Michael Schill about the pervasive antisemitism occurring on campus at Northwestern University. However, President Schill was unwilling to condemn the antisemitic behavior exhibited by both students and faculty, refusing to comment on many of my questions. Please know that I remain committed to working with my colleagues to hold these universities accountable and ensure that Jewish students are protected.

Improving Election Security

In 2022, Washington, D.C., decided to allow noncitizens to cast ballots in local elections. Illegal immigrants and foreign agents should not be able to vote in our nation’s capital. That is why, this week, I supported H.R. 192, which would overturn this misguided statute by prohibiting individuals who are not citizens from voting in elections in the District of Columbia. House Republicans remain committed to preserving the rights of U.S. citizens and upholding the integrity of our elections.

Serving our Seniors

On Monday, I hosted a Senior Resource Fair at the Bedford Senior Center. Thank you to all the community organizations who were able to connect attendees with important resources. If you could not make the event, then please don’t hesitate to reach out to my Jackson office at (517) 780-9075 or my Niles office at (269) 479-3115 for assistance. I have a team of dedicated caseworkers who stand ready to help you with navigating Social Security, Medicare, and VA benefits.

Supporting our Veterans

Across southern Michigan, there are many resources to assist our veterans, including Little Blessings, an organization in Monroe County offering equine-assisted wellness programs.  The work they do to support our local veterans is tremendous, and it is incredible to see the growth of this wonderful organization through the years.
