On Monday, I had the opportunity to officially launch our Veteran of the Month Program and recognize Ken Moore from Monroe as the first recipient. The Veteran of the Month is a new initiative dedicated to honoring the exemplary contributions of veterans in Michigan's 5th Congressional District. Ken served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was a co-founder of Flags O’er Veterans, which pays tribute to deceased veterans in the Monroe community by installing flagpoles in local cemeteries where veterans are laid to rest. To submit a nomination for the program, please visit my website.
I recently had the opportunity to visit Cobra Moto, a high-performance youth motorcycle manufacturer in Hillsdale, to tour their site and learn more about their operations. To empower small businesses like theirs, I voted for a permanent small business tax deduction to allow for business expansion and create more good-paying jobs. This provision will create 1 million new jobs and $75 billion in economic growth every year. I also enjoyed hearing about how they are training the next generation of manufacturers through apprenticeships that offer hands-on experience.
I enjoyed visiting Lindy's Restaurant in Cassopolis and talking to workers who are excited about the benefits of the historic Working Families Tax Cuts. Policies like no tax on tips will boost the income of four million tipped workers by up to $1,300. This is in addition to the up to $11,700 increase in take-home pay for a typical family of 4 in Michigan. Learn more about this critical legislation and how it provides relief to hardworking Americans here.
I was able to stop by the Boys & Girls Club of Lenawee to tour their brand new Adrian Teen Space. The Teen Academic & Program Space will provide teenagers with a new place to study, hang out, and participate in programs offered by the club. Thank you to the Boys and Girls Club for providing our youth with academic support, leadership skills, and development opportunities!
Calling all parents: my office is still accepting applications for my nomination to our U.S. Military Service Academies. On Monday, I had the opportunity to host a Service Academy Fair at Monroe High School to talk to students who are interested in the many opportunities these institutions have to offer and bring together representatives from the different service academies to answer their questions. I’m always amazed by their passion for and their desire to serve our country. Those interested in applying for my nomination can download the application form here and send all requested information to my Jackson District Office no later than October 15, 2025.
