Honoring Law Enforcement
Honoring Law EnforcementWe celebrated Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on Tuesday. I had the pleasure of spending time with state police troopers and Niles Police Department officers and offer them my deep gratitude for the work they do to keep our families safe. These heroes deserve our utmost respect for the sacrifices they make each day to protect our community. Please know that I will always support law enforcement officers and ensure they have the necessary resources and support. |
Cracking Down on Human TraffickingThe Education and Workforce Committee voted unanimously to advance my bill, the Enhancing Detection of Human Trafficking Act. This bipartisan legislation would ensure that Department of Labor employees receive the proper training to recognize instances of human trafficking and refer these cases to law enforcement agencies. I am pleased to see this bipartisan bill advanced by the Education and Workforce Committee during National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, and I look forward to seeing it pass the House. Human trafficking is an abhorrent crime, and I remain committed to addressing these serious offenses. |
Bolstering CybersecurityOn Thursday, the Communications and Technology Subcommittee held a hearing to examine efforts to strengthen our cybersecurity and mitigate risks to our communications networks. Every day, there are more than 2,200 cyberattacks on communications infrastructure throughout the United States, including threats from foreign adversaries like China. Michigan’s 5th District has even experienced multiple cyberattacks that closed schools in Hillsdale and Jackson Counties for days. The increasing frequency of attacks like these demonstrates the importance of strengthening the resiliency of our communications networks. |
Fighting Disastrous RegulationsOn Friday, I took to the House floor to support H.J. Res. 98, a resolution of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act to nullify the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) Final Rule on Joint-Employer Status. The Biden administration is seeking to replace a reasonable and balanced standard and replace it with a failed rule that we know will directly harm entrepreneurs, small businesses, and their employees across the country. The House passed this resolution to block the proposed rule and return to the commonsense standard that workers and local employers have relied on for decades. |
Promoting Abundant & Affordable EnergyThis week, I had the opportunity to participate in an Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials Subcommittee hearing on the EPA’s methane regulations. Recently, the EPA issued regulations targeting the methane emissions of the oil and natural gas sector. We all share the goal of reducing emissions and cleaning up our environment, but as examined in the hearing, these regulations may actually increase environmental risks from marginal wells in states like Michigan that would sit idle. Instead of imposing regulations that will increase energy costs, jeopardize our local economy, and create larger environmental risks, we must promote private sector innovations. |
Recognizing the National ChampionsIt is my sincere honor to congratulate the University of Michigan Wolverines on their College Football Playoff National Championship! The Wolverines’ phenomenal coaching staff, student-athletes, and support personnel have made all of us Michiganders truly proud. Hail to the Victors! |
