Hearing from You

Hearing from You
Traveling across southern Michigan to hear from constituents is always a priority. Recently, I hosted a community gathering in Leoni Township, where I shared an update on my legislative efforts and was able to hear about the issues that matter most to our community. During the gathering, we discussed my recent work to lower health care premiums by over 11% and save taxpayers about $30 billion through the passage of the Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act. We also discussed how the Working Families Tax Cuts are providing real tax relief for Michigan families. This year, the average Michigan family saw a $3,131 tax deduction, the largest in history, ensuring that Michiganders can pocket more of their hard-earned money.
Honoring a Branch County Veteran
Our nation's veterans have sacrificed so much for our freedoms. On Monday, I was honored to recognize Charles Scott as the Veteran of the Month. Charles served in the Army from 1979 to 1992, reaching the rank of Staff Sargent. Following his service, he was a Branch County Veterans Service Officer for 22 years, where he was dedicated to assisting his fellow veterans to ensure they received the benefits and care they deserved. Charles received multiple awards in recognition of his service for Branch County veterans, including a Veterans Service Officer of the Year Award in 2013 and, most recently, the Special Tribute Award in 2025. I commend Charles for his years of service to our nation and our community. If you would like to nominate a deserving veteran for this honor, please visit my website.
Empowering Small Businesses
This National Small Business Week, we recognize how small businesses are always at the heart of our local communities, which is why it is important they have the resources they need to thrive. I had the opportunity to attend a roundtable with the National Federation of Independent Business, where we discussed recent initiatives that can help Main Street America succeed. Last year, the House passed my bill, the Association Health Plans Act, which would improve access to quality health care by allowing small businesses and their employees to band together to leverage greater bargaining power and offer coverage options at lower prices.
Recognizing the 2026 Congressional Art Competition Winners
On Wednesday, I announced the winners of the 2026 Congressional Art Competition for Michigan’s 5th District. Wyatt Herb from Lenawee Christian School received first place for his entry, Bowing to the Cross. The impressive work features a soldier bowing to a cross in a forest, honoring Jesus and his fallen brothers-in-arms, and will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel to the U.S. Capitol Building.
Second place was awarded to Tyler White from Quincy High School. His entry, 1776, will be displayed in Congressman Walberg's Jackson District Office. Ava's art teacher at Jonesville High School is Sarah Sundberg. Thank you to all the students who participated!
Raising Motorcycle Awareness
As a co-chair of the Congressional Motorcycle Caucus and a fellow rider, I recognize the importance of ensuring every rider is able to safely enjoy America's open roads. I was proud to join my colleagues on the Congressional Motorcycle Caucus to introduce a bipartisan, bicameral resolution to raise awareness for motorcycle safety. Each year, many motorcyclists take to the roads to enjoy the freedom only a ride on two wheels can provide. We must enhance rider safety, education, and awareness to educate riders and enhance safety to ensure every motorcyclist can enjoy the freedom of the road safely and with confidence.
