Fixing the Supply Chain Crisis

This week, I signed a letter to President Joe Biden urging him to reconsider his partisan multi-trillion-dollar spending packages and instead focus on fixing the growing supply chain crisis. President Biden's harmful economic policies are contributing to rising inflation, worker shortages, and bottlenecks in the supply chain that impede the safe and efficient movement of goods and people. Rather than controversial new trillion dollar social spending and policy proposals, President Biden should immediately begin working with Congress to solve the supply chain crisis. House Passes Cybersecurity Bill

On Wednesday, the House passed H.R. 4067, the Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council Act, a bipartisan bill I introduced with Reps. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) and Kurt Schrader (D-OR). The bill will strengthen America's cybersecurity by codifying an FCC advisory council and task it with making recommendations on how we can best ensure the security, reliability, and resiliency of our nation's communications systems. We must be prepared as a nation to meet these evolving cybersecurity challenges and bringing the best minds to the table can help us prevent threats from developing into full-fledged attacks. Hearing From You

It was a pleasure to have the opportunity recently to hear from the residents of Jackson and Quincy. Many expressed concern with the barrage of crises facing our country, including on the southern border, supply chain issues, and the rise of inflation. According to a recent estimate, the average household is forced to spend an additional $175 a month on food, fuel, and housing because of the current inflation rate. We cannot afford to continue down this path of out-of-control spending that is making it harder to cover day-to-day expenses.

Grant Funding for Local Police

Recently, the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program awarded grants to Eaton County, Monroe County, and Jackson Police Department. These grants allow states and units of local government to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on local needs and conditions. In Michigan's 7th District, the men and women of law enforcement are dedicated to fulfilling their duty each day, and these grants will help purchase equipment and improve programs designed at preventing crime.

Addressing Pressing Energy Issues

As I travel the district, I consistently hear about how rising energy costs are impacting family budgets. In addition to the exorbitant prices you face every time at the pump, we are on the verge of a heating crisis this winter in both pricing, and supply of propane. In an Energy Subcommittee hearing this week, I expressed my frustration that our committee is prioritizing a political agenda over the needs of American people.

Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. The usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards. As we work to combat the opioid epidemic, no effort is too small, and each of us can make a difference.
