Fighting for a Strong Economy

Fighting for a Strong EconomyPresident Biden and congressional Democrats inherited a strong economy that worked for everyone. They squandered that inheritance. Quickly, with massive spending bill after massive spending bill, inflation began to spike and remains at a 40-year high. Burdensome red tape and Green New Deal policies limited domestic energy production and quickly thereafter, prices rose. As a part of the Commitment to America, we will fight inflation and lower the cost of living, make America energy independent and reduce gas prices, and strengthen our supply chain. Demanding Domestic Energy ProductionIn Michigan, gas prices are above the national average and families are feeling the squeeze. All the Biden administration has done is unsuccessfully beg OPEC, increase our reliance on foreign oil, and deplete our strategic reserves to their lowest levels in decades. This week, I led a letter to Secretary Granholm laying out the urgency of the energy crisis, and urging the Biden administration to reverse policy and unleash energy production for American consumers and our energy independence and security. Addressing Ongoing Border CrisisFiscal Year 2022 has ended with a record-setting 2.37 million illegal border crossings. Fentanyl is pouring across the border and nearly 100 individuals on the terrorist watchlist have attempted to illegally enter the country. I have cosponsored the Border Security for America Act which would bring back effective border security policies like wall construction and dynamic physical infrastructure and implement modern technologies and deterrents. While Democratic leadership and the Biden administration ignore this worsening crisis, I will continue to fight for secure borders. |
Promoting Career OpportunitiesThis week, I had a chance to visit the Jackson Area Career Center to meet with their students and new principal, Dan Draper. They offer such valuable programming to prepare students with hands-on experience for 21st-century careers. On Wednesday, I also attended the Job Creators Network Small Business Rally in Jackson to discuss workforce development and strengthening our local economy. |
Strengthening Supply Chain ResiliencyRecently, I stopped by Banas Lumber & Hardware in Monroe to hear what issues are impacting their family store. Just like so many other family businesses across Michigan and across our country, they are feeling the impact of crippling inflation, labor shortages, and supply chain backlogs. As a part of the Commitment to America, we will move supply chains away from China, expand American manufacturing, and strengthen our economic competitiveness and resiliency. |
