Fighting for Border Security

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has created a crisis at our southern border, allowing over 9 million illegal immigrants to cross into the United States. On Tuesday, the House voted to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable by advancing two articles of impeachment against him for willfully and systemically refusing to comply with federal immigration laws and breaching public trust. House Republicans have passed the most comprehensive border security legislation in decades, H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act. H.R. 2 would restart construction of the border wall and increase the number of border patrol agents, among many other provisions. The Senate has refused to take up this border security measure or pass any other border bill. The White House has taken actions 64 times to weaken border security. It's past time they get serious about border security.

Unleashing American Energy

In late January, the Biden administration announced an indefinite ban on the issuance of export permits for liquified natural gas (LNG) to non-Free Trade Agreement countries. This ban would raise energy costs for families, increase emissions, and empower foreign adversaries like Russia. In response, this week I supported the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act, which would reverse this disastrous ban and bolster production of clean, American-produced LNG which has 41% lower lifecycle emissions than compressed natural gas from Russia. By unleashing American LNG, we can support our allies, boost America’s economy, and lower emissions.

Countering the Chinese Communist Party

As I travel the district, I continue to hear from constituents who are concerned about the growing threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party. This week, the House passed numerous pieces of legislation that will counter the CCP’s tyranny including the No Dollars to Uyghur Forced Labor Act, the Uyghur Policy Act, and the Promoting a Resolution to the Tibet-China Dispute Act. Together these bills will defend Uyghurs, ensure that taxpayer dollars do not fund China’s exploitation of Uyghurs, and strengthen U.S. policy to promote negotiations regarding the conflict between Tibet and China.

Eradicating Human Trafficking

According to data released by the National Human Trafficking Hotline, in Michigan, over 295 cases of human trafficking were identified in 2021 alone, with 429 victims involved. To address this scourge on our society, I supported the Frederick Douglass Trafficking Victims Prevention and Protection Reauthorization Act, which passed the House this week. This bipartisan legislation would reauthorize several programs managed by federal agencies that work to prevent human trafficking. Earlier this month, the House also passed my legislation, the Enhancing Detection of Human Trafficking Act, by a unanimous vote.
