Denouncing Destructive Socialist Policies

Over the past few years, Michigan and the United States as a whole have seen a concerning rise in support for the destructive policies of socialism and leaders who seek to replace freedom with government control. From defunding the police to allowing noncitizens to vote in U.S. elections and seizing ownership of private corporations, the dangerous policies being pushed by the Democratic Socialists of America seek to undermine the very principles that have carried our nation through 250 years of freedom, ingenuity, and opportunity. This week, I was proud to speak on the floor in support of, and vote in favor of, a resolution to condemn socialism and the dangerous policies being pushed by the Democratic Socialists of America. Unfortunately, 192 of my Democratic colleagues refused to reject this radical ideology and preserve the rights and freedoms of hardworking Michigan families.

Accelerating Broadband Deployment in Rural Michigan

The lack of a national broadband strategy has led to duplicative and wasteful efforts that delay the deployment of high-speed broadband across the nation, according to a report released by the Government Accountability Office. I was proud to see my bill, the PLAN for Broadband Act, advanced by the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology on Tuesday. This critical legislation would implement a national strategy to improve connectivity for Americans across the country. By increasing coordination among relevant agencies, we can streamline permitting, better accelerate the deployment of broadband infrastructure, and close the digital divide.

Supporting Veterans in MI-05

I was honored to host a Veterans Fair in Monroe to connect veterans and their families with benefits earned through their service to our country. Veterans have sacrificed much for our country, and they deserve our respect, gratitude, and support. I took bipartisan action to increase veterans’ Cost-of-Living Adjustment to ensure that veterans get the proper benefits they earned. This legislation, which was signed into law last year, ensures our nation's veterans have the resources they need by requiring the Department of Veterans Affairs to increase disability compensation payments to disabled veterans and their families to keep pace with inflation.

Improving Water Quality and Wildlife Habitat in Lenawee County

Recently, I was able to visit the new Seneca State Game Area in Lenawee County, a restoration project developed in partnership with Ducks Unlimited and state agencies to help improve water quality and wildlife habitat. As a lifelong outdoorsman and member of the House Natural Resources Committee, I am committed to protecting America's outdoor heritage for future generations. In March, I was proud to vote for the bipartisan American Water Stewardship Act, which would reauthorize funding for several long-standing programs to maintain and improve water quality throughout the nation, including the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI). I remain committed to continuing to work alongside my colleagues to ensure the responsible stewardship of the Great Lakes and all of our state's natural treasures.

Keeping the Government Open

House Republicans have advanced all 12 bills for fiscal year 2027 funding out of the House Appropriations Committee, including 3 that have passed the House with bipartisan support. However, Senate Democrats have refused to advance a single fiscal year 2027 appropriations bill, abandoning regular order and jeopardizing the funding process. House Republicans will not allow the obstruction of Senate Democrats to trigger another government shutdown. This week, I voted for, and the House passed, a clean, short-term continuing resolution to keep the government open. This funding bill will provide stability for hardworking Michigan veterans, servicemembers, and families while Congress continues to complete the appropriations process.
