Delivering the Largest Tax Refund

Delivering the Largest Tax Refund
Thanks to Republican leadership, this year will be the largest tax refund season in American history, with Americans estimated to receive $91 billion in additional tax refunds.
Last year, President Trump signed into law the historic Working Families Tax Cuts legislation, which allows Americans to pocket more of their hard-earned money. As a result, Americans could receive a nearly $4,000 tax refund – the equivalent of over five months of groceries – providing real relief to hardworking families. A family of four with two kids earning $73,000 and claiming the standard deduction and Child Tax Credit will owe zero in income tax liability.
The Working Families Tax Cuts contribute to the largest tax refund season in U.S. history by:
- Making permanent the lower tax rates from the 2017 Trump tax cuts
- Increasing the doubled standard deduction
- Implementing no tax on tips, overtime, and Social Security for 88% of recipients
- Boosting the Child Tax Credit to $2,200
- Expanding access to child care and making permanent the paid leave tax credit
- Expanding 529 savings accounts to help families choose the education that best fits their needs
- Providing a $1,000 savings account to support the future of every newborn child
House Republicans are focused on making life more affordable for working families.
Addressing the Situation in Minneapolis
Immigration enforcement is a critical mission that must be done safely. Following this past week’s tragedy, the President sent Tom Homan, who has a long and respected history of enforcing the law effectively, to Minneapolis. Since then, Homan has had productive conversations with Governor Walz to discuss how they can work together to support our law enforcement officers, prevent escalation, and protect communities.
Congress will continue to exercise oversight over these operations. The leaders of ICE, CBP, and USCIS will be testifying before the House Committee on Homeland Security on February 10, at the request of Chairman Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), to increase transparency and ensure the safety of law enforcement and those they are tasked to serve and protect.
Promoting School Choice
This week is National School Choice Week, and as Chair of the Education and Workforce Committee, I remain committed to empowering families to select learning environments that best match their children’s unique needs and talents. When parents have access to a wide range of educational options—traditional public, charter, private, magnet, or homeschooling—students are more likely to thrive both in and out of the classroom. I joined Representatives John Moolenaar (R-MI) and Burgess Owens (R-UT) in introducing a resolution to affirm our shared commitment to helping every child succeed.
I also supported the Working Families Tax Cuts, which created the Education Freedom Tax Credit to incentivize investments in scholarships to support K-12 education for millions of hardworking Americans and pay for expenses that best meet their educational needs.
Empowering Local Businesses
I recently had the opportunity to visit Aunt Millie's Bakehouse in Coldwater to learn more about their operations, which help feed our community. To empower local businesses like theirs, I voted for the historic Working Families Tax Cuts legislation that provides a permanent small business tax deduction to allow for business expansion and create more good-paying jobs. Workers will also benefit from policies like no tax on overtime, which will enable them to pocket more of their hard-earned money.
