Combating Human Trafficking
Combating Human TraffickingRecently, I introduced H.R. 443, Enhancing Detection of Human Trafficking Act. The bipartisan bill would ensure that Department of Labor employees receive the proper training to recognize instances of human trafficking and refer these cases to law enforcement agencies. This bill is an important step we can take to hold traffickers accountable and keep our communities safe. January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to advance this bipartisan legislation. |
Receiving Committee AssignmentsWith the start of the 118th Congress, I was proud to receive assignments to serve on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and House Committee on Education and the Workforce. As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I will be serving on three subcommittees: Communications & Technology, Energy, Climate, & Grid Security, and I will serve as Vice Chair on Innovation, Data, and Commerce. Through these assignments, I look forward to providing solutions to empower parents, develop a skilled workforce, expand broadband in rural communities, unleash domestic energy production to lower energy costs for families across Michigan, and protect Americans’ data from Big Tech and the Chinese Communist Party. |
Protecting Emergency Energy SupplyOn Friday, the House passed H.R. 21, Strategic Production Response Act. The legislation, which I cosponsored, would ensure that our Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) remains ready for when we face global supply disruptions that threaten our economy. Instead of abandoning their failed progressive policies, the Biden administration decided to use America’s emergency reserve as a political band-aid. Now, our emergency reserves are at their lowest level since 1983. In addition to passing H.R. 21 to bolster our energy security, I also joined my Republican colleagues on the Energy and Commerce Committee for a roundtable to further discuss how Congress can ensure that energy remains accessible and affordable for hardworking Americans. |
Meeting with Local LeadersSince being elected to serve the people of Michigan’s 5th Congressional District, I have traversed southern Michigan, meeting constituents in their community. Recently, I've been able to meet with local leaders and community members in Marshall, Monroe, New Buffalo, Niles, and Three Rivers. I appreciate being able to meet so many great people, and I will continue to stay actively engaged at the local level. Recently, I wrote an op-ed in The Herald-Palladium on representing Michigan's new 5 District. Click here to read it. |
