Check Your Passport!

The National Passport Center is an arm of the U.S. Department of State and is tasked with verifying citizenship and issuing passports to U.S. citizens. 

Current processing times for passports are 4 to 6 weeks for routine processing and 2 to 3 weeks for expedited processing. However, both may vary due to the volume of applications and case-specific information needed for your application. It may also take up to 2 weeks for applications to arrive by mail at a passport agency or center and up to 2 weeks to receive a completed passport in the mail after being printed by the State Department.

Please follow these helpful tips to ensure you have your passport in time for any international travel:

• Check your passport expiration date! If it is expired or expiring within 1 year, submit a renewal application, whether you are planning to travel or not.
• Have a valid passport before you make irreversible travel plans. Even the expedited passport service takes longer than expected.
• Due to increased processing times, renew your passport at least 6 months prior to travel.
• Check your application status online at passportstatus.state.gov.
• Most airlines will not permit international travel with a passport if the expiration date is within 6 months of your date of return to the United States. The State Department recommends against travel if the expiration date is within 6 months. 
• Whether it’s an emergency need for international travel, difficulty determining the status of your application, or locating missing documents, my office can help you obtain your passport in time for travel.

Assistance with Federal Agencies

Residents of the 5th Congressional District of Michigan can contact us for assistance in dealing with federal agencies. If you need any assistance with federal agencies such as the Social Security Administration (SSA), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), or U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), my team of caseworkers and I stand ready to help. While we cannot promise a favorable outcome, my office can help you receive the information you need and also try to resolve various issues with federal agencies if you feel you have been treated unfairly.

Military Academy Nominations

As your 5th District Representative in the U.S. House of Representatives, each year I have the privilege of nominating a limited number of high school and college students to four of the five military service academies. The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation. My congressional office is accepting submissions for our Veteran of the Month program, an initiative dedicated to honoring and acknowledging the exemplary contributions of veterans in Michigan's 5th Congressional District. 2026 Congressional App Challenge

Reminder: The 2026 Congressional App Challenge has begun! I would like to extend an invitation to all middle and high school students in Michigan's 5th District to create and submit an original app for a chance to win. It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to explore and enhance their computer science skills.

White House Christmas Volunteer and Performer Application

Christmas planning is underway at the White House, and President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are continuing the tradition of welcoming volunteers to help celebrate the holiday season at the People’s House. Those interested in volunteering to decorate the White House ahead of the Christmas Season may apply here. Performers and musical groups, including school bands, choirs, and holiday-themed entertainers, are encouraged to apply here for the opportunity to perform during the holiday open houses during the month of December.
