Build Back Broke
Opposing Reckless SpendingThis week, I took to the House floor to expose the problems with the Build Back Broke spending plan. Simply put, this bill is cradle-to-grave socialism. With inflation still on the rise, Speaker Pelosi rammed through an incredibly problematic and partisan bill that is not fully paid for and will raise taxes on hard working Americans. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released their score on Thursday confirming that the Biden Administration was incorrect when claiming Build Back Broke (BBB) was fully paid for. In fact, it would add $367 billion to the national debt. And when you factor in all the budget gimmicks, the bill will balloon the debt even more than that. A left-leaning organization, the Tax Policy Center, found this socialist spending spree would raise taxes on 30% of middle-class Americans. Moreover, while hardworking families will be taxed more and suffer the consequences of greater inflation, the second largest expenditure in the bill is a massive tax break to certain top-earning Americans. So what else is in this monstrosity?
This is the most extreme and reckless spending bill in our nation's history. |
Legislating Against Rigid MandateOn Wednesday, I spoke about my support for new legislation to nullify the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) COVID-19 vaccine-and-testing mandate. President Biden's first year has been marked by a poor economic recovery, supply-chain issues, and workforce shortages. This mandate will only continue to destroy the workforce as millions could face wrongful termination. Click here to watch my remarks. |
Defending Energy InfrastructureEarlier this week, I participated in an Energy Subcommittee hearing to discuss the Line 5 pipeline and how shutting it down would be a terrible decision for our national energy strategy. While President Biden visited Michigan this week, he failed to address this issue or offer any solutions to the energy crisis our country is facing. To listen to my remarks, please click here. |
Advancing Bipartisan LegislationWednesday's full committee Energy & Commerce markup consisted of 12 bills including the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act, the Improving the Health of Children Act, the Accelerating Access to Critical Therapies for ALS Act, and Integrity, Notification, and Fairness in Online Retail Marketplaces for Consumers Act. While Speaker Pelosi has pushed her hyper-partisan political agenda, there still is some positive work being done in Washington. We need to spend more time on legislation like these bills, and less time on an unpopular political agenda. |
