Bolstering Election Security

On Wednesday, I voted in support of the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which passed the House. The bill requires that all individuals provide documented proof of U.S. citizenship upon registering to vote in federal elections and requires states to remove noncitizens from their voter rolls. Speaker Johnson released a must-read report highlighting why we need this legislation to become law. I also recently partnered with my Michigan Republican delegation colleagues in sending a letter to Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson demanding answers on whether public funds are being diverted from supporting small business to instead aid President Biden’s reelection campaign. Please know I will continue to work with my colleagues to uphold our election integrity. You can read more about this effort in this Fox News article.

After the tragedy that occurred in Hillsdale County, I took to the House floor to recognize the life and legacy of Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Deputy William Henry Butler Jr. Deputy Butler courageously served our country for 26 years in the National Guard, including deployment overseas during Operation Iraqi Freedom, followed by service in the Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office for 12 years. As a clear representation of his impact on others, thousands attended his funeral this past week to honor his life and service. Deputy Butler will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

This week, I supported legislation to block President Biden’s radical Title IX rewrite. The Biden administration’s disastrous rule would remove the protections and equal opportunity women have courageously fought for decades to secure. The rule also completely disregards existing due process rights. I am proud to have supported this Congressional Review Act to stand up for women and girls and protect their equal access to educational opportunities.

As a member of the Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee, I had the opportunity to speak with Federal Trade Commission Commissioner Melissa Holyoak about my bipartisan, bicameral legislation. The Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA 2.0) would build upon the only online privacy law for children, COPPA, by prohibiting targeted advertising, establishing data minimization rules, and preventing internet companies from collecting personal information for both children and teenagers. Please know that I remain committed to ensuring safety and privacy for our children.

As an avid rider of anything with two wheels and the Chairman of the Congressional Motorcycle Caucus, I had the pleasure celebrating Independence Day Weekend at RedBud. While having some fun, we also reflected on the iconic Nancy Ritchie, an influential figure in the motorcycle community, who we lost earlier this year. The track has such a storied history, and there's nothing quite like RedBud National to celebrate Independence Day. Relatedly, as the Olympics approach, I'm wishing Buchanan’s very own BMX cyclist, Hannah Roberts, the best of luck in Paris.
