Announcing the Congressional Art Competition

Announcing the Congressional Art Competition
My office is seeking submissions from high school students in the 5th Congressional District for the 2026 Congressional Art Competition. In recognition of our nation's Semiquincentennial, this year's theme will be "America 250." The winning piece of artwork will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel to the U.S. Capitol, along with the winners from the other congressional districts across the country. If you are interested in submitting your artwork, please do so no later than midnight on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

I look forward to seeing the creativity displayed by students in this year's competition and wish all those who plan on participating the best of luck.
Strengthening Election Integrity
On Wednesday, I led the Michigan Republican Delegation in sending a letter to Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, which demands answers on election integrity in Michigan amid reports of non-citizens both being registered to vote and casting a ballot in elections. Secretary Benson should be taking every action to ensure the integrity of Michigan elections and build public confidence in them.
To further improve election integrity and address loopholes, I have cosponsored the Make Elections Great Again (MEGA) Act. The legislation includes commonsense provisions that make our nation's election security stronger, including establishing voter ID requirements, improving state voter roll maintenance, and banning ballot harvesting.
Supporting Our Veterans
We owe our nation’s heroic veterans a debt of gratitude for their sacrifice. This week, House Republicans passed multiple bills to uphold our promise to them, including:
- The Veterans Readiness and Employment Improvement Act, which allows non-VA counselors to provide their services on campuses.
- The VETS Opportunity Act, which expands education benefits and modernizes the VA education programs. It sets up veterans for better opportunities after their service is complete.
- The Ernest Peltz Accrued Veterans Benefits Act, which allows pensions to be given to families of veterans who have passed away.
Please know that I will continue to support the selfless men and women who have served our country.
Strengthening Our Grid
Due to the rising number of attacks on our critical energy infrastructure, it has become increasingly important to strengthen our cyber defenses and emergency response capabilities in the energy sector. On Wednesday, the Energy Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced my bill, the Energy Emergency Leadership Act, which I was proud to introduce with Rep. Laurel Lee (R-FL). The legislation would increase coordination within the Department of Energy to help strengthen our cyber defense and emergency response capabilities and make our grid more resilient.
Securing Our Supply Chains
Critical minerals are essential to our defense, manufacturing, and energy independence. However, China currently controls 90% of global critical mineral processing. On Wednesday, the House passed the Critical Mineral Dominance Act, which codifies President Trump's executive orders to spur critical mineral development and ensure we have the minerals we need for our national and economic security. We must decrease our reliance on foreign adversaries and secure our supply chain by sourcing critical minerals right here at home.
