Addressing Skyrocketing Gas Prices

Addressing Skyrocketing Gas PricesRecently, I joined my Republican colleagues on the Energy and Commerce and Natural Resources Committees to participate in a joint forum on soaring energy costs. During the forum, Tim Welbaum from Visiting Angels shared how soaring prices gases are negatively impacting him and other caregivers that travel across south-central Michigan to assist vulnerable seniors. The energy crisis is impacting all sectors of our community, including the home care industry, and must be addressed. It is past time to take action on these skyrocketing gas prices and unleash American energy production. |
A Country in CrisisSince President Biden took office, our country has jolted from one crisis to another. As I travel the district, I have appreciated being able to discuss important issues like inflation, energy independence, border security, and more. I am working to address these crises in Congress and put America back on a path to prosperity and strength. I have authored and supported legislation to curb inflation, promote energy independence, secure the border, prevent crime, and promote national security. Fixing IRS BacklogAn ongoing concern our caseworkers in the Jackson District Office continue to encounter is the IRS backlog. I signed onto a letter to IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig to demand answers on delayed tax refunds. In the letter, we asked questions aimed at providing transparency to taxpayers regarding these delays. With surging inflation and high gas prices, it is more important than ever that Americans receive the tax refunds that they rely on to meet their basic everyday needs. Biden's Independence Day TaxLast Independence Day, President Biden touted a 16-cent decrease in 4th of July spending as evidence his economic plan was working. This year, families will pay 17% more to celebrate Independence Day, according to American Farm Bureau Federation. Even by their own standards, the Biden administration’s policies are failing the American people. |
Hosting Congressional Art WinnerLast week, I had the pleasure of hosting Katelyn Richard, the winner of the 2022 Congressional Art Competition for Michigan’s 7th District. Katelyn was able to visit my office, tour the U.S. Capitol Building, attend a reception with other winners from across the country, and see her exceptional watercolor painting, Changing Seasons, displayed in a tunnel leading to the Capitol. Congratulations Katelyn on your outstanding artwork! |
