Voting Against More Taxes & Spending
On Friday, I voted against the so-called "Inflation Reduction Act." This dangerous piece of legislation would raise taxes on Americans during a recession, hire an army of 87,000 IRS agents to target individuals, and impose Green New Deal policies that will only further raise the cost of energy. Americans are experiencing record-breaking inflation, and this bill will only prolong the economic hardship that families and small businesses are facing. Despite politically-motivated claims, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation, Congress’s official nonpartisan tax scorekeeper, up to 90% of the revenue raised from enhanced audits will be taken from middle class Americans. Expanding Broadband AccessRecently, I joined Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT), Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS), and Sen. Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) in introducing the Proper Leadership to Align Networks (PLAN) for Broadband Act. This legislation would require the President to develop and implement a national strategy to close the digital divide. It is critical that we work to strengthen the reliability of broadband services that families, farmers, and small businesses depend on. Crippling Inflation at 8.5%According to the Bureau for Labor Statistics, inflation was at 8.5% in July, a 40-year high. While the White House is celebrating 8.5%, families and small businesses continue to struggle. I continue to meet with families across Michigan and see firsthand how they have been forced to stretch their monthly budget and change their driving habits to make ends meet, with no end in sight. President Biden must reverse course and promote commonsense solutions that reverse inflation and unleash domestic energy production. |
