On Monday, I was proud to witness the 60th Presidential Inauguration and see President Donald J. Trump take the oath of office. House Republicans are ready to work with President Trump to get our country back on track. We will put Americans first by strengthening our economy, promoting American energy independence, and securing our border. America's future is truly bright, and it's time to get to work!

After hearing the news that the 60th Inauguration would take place inside, I was heartbroken for all the constituents who had planned to come to Washington to witness the historic event. My team and I began planning to host constituents from all ten counties of Michigan's 5th Congressional District in my two committee hearings rooms to watch the second Inauguration of President Donald Trump. Thank you to everyone who came to the event. I enjoyed speaking with you all and sharing this monumental day!

Committee on Natural Resources

In addition to chairing the Education & Workforce Committee, I will be serving as a member of the Committee on Natural Resources to oversee the responsible management of our natural resources like the Great Lakes and protect this invaluable resource from threats like algal blooms and Asian Carp. I also look forward to unlocking the full potential of American energy and streamlining burdensome federal regulatory processes. On Wednesday, the Committee on Natural Resources held an organizing meeting for the 119th Congress to adopt the rules and oversight plan for the 119th Congress.

We have seen the destruction caused by catastrophic wildfires across the country, particularly in California. On Thursday, I helped the House pass the Fix Our Forests Act. I was proud to cosponsor and speak on the House floor in support of this legislation, which offers a commonsense approach to restore our forests’ health and make our communities more resilient to wildfires. By promoting collaboration and providing our agencies with the tools necessary to implement critical forest management projects, the Fix Our Forests Act will help prevent wildfires.

Protecting Life

This week, the House voted to uphold the sanctity of life by passing the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. I was proud to cosponsor and vote in favor of this legislation which ensures that infants born alive after an attempted abortion receive the same protection of the law and degree of care as any newborn. Please know I will always support life and protect those who are most vulnerable. I also had the honor of meeting some constituents from across Michigan who journeyed to Washington to participate in the March for Life. Thank you to everyone who stopped by my office!
