This week, we celebrated the first 100 days of the Trump administration, which have been marked by bold, decisive action to deliver on the mandate given by the American people. Since his return to office, President Trump has prioritized securing our borders, unleashing American energy dominance, re-establishing American strength on the global stage, and restoring accountability and transparency in government. As a result, illegal border crossings have seen lows not seen in decades, inflation and energy prices have both plummeted, and the United States has secured over $3 trillion in private investments. We're just getting started, and I'll continue to work with the Administration to reinvigorate our economy, put Americans first, and usher in the new Golden Age of America. On Tuesday, the Education and Workforce Committee held a markup as part of the reconciliation process to advance President Trump's efforts to identify waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government and put more money back in taxpayers' pockets. The Student Success and Taxpayer Savings Plan will focus on reforming postsecondary education so that taxpayers, students, and schools are better served via three main initiatives: strengthening accountability for students and taxpayers, streamlining student loan options, and simplifying student loan repayment. It’s time to fix this broken cycle that is costly to taxpayers and leaves students worse off than if they never went to college.
This week, the House passed the FUTURE Networks Act, which I introduced with Representatives Doris Matsui (D-CA) and Rick Allen (R-GA). The FUTURE Networks Act would require the FCC to establish a 6G Task Force, comprised of industry and government leaders. The Task Force will issue a report and prepare us for possible 6G technology applications and potential threats such as cybersecurity or supply chain disruptions. Our economic and national security depend on the United States remaining the leader in next generation connectivity, and this legislation ensures America is at the forefront of this development.
On Thursday, I was invited to the White House to attend a service for the National Day of Prayer. We gather together to lift up our communities, state, and country in prayer. May we take refuge in God’s guidance and strength and seek His continued blessing over us.
I took to the House floor to honor longtime Lenawee County Sheriff Richard Germond who sadly passed away Wednesday morning. Sheriff Germond was an impactful member of our community, serving as sheriff for 36 years. Sheriff Germond will always be remembered as a model sheriff and a hero. He will be sorely missed, and his impact on our community will be felt for generations to come.
