Tim Walberg introduced H.R. 3493, the Servicemembers Transition Improvement Act, which would assist members of the Armed Forces transitioning into civilian life by requiring the Department of Defense to provide the contact information for separating service members to state veterans affairs departments. H.R. 3493 is a companion bill to legislation recently introduced by Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA).
HILLSDALE — Governmental officials from around the state took time out Monday to remember those who are serving and those who have served in our nation's armed forces.
State Representative Ken Kurtz and State Senator Bruce Caswell spent part of the day in Hillsdale as they took part in the Hillsdale County Veterans Day ceremony at the Hillsdale County Courthouse. Congressman Tim Walberg also took part.
The ceremony featured Ken Benge, veterans affairs director for Hillsdale County.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This week Rep. Walberg met with Sean Hilbert, president of Cobra Motorcycle in Hillsdale, to honor him for Cobra's 20 years of manufacturing and consistently delivering the most successful line of competition mini-motocross bikes in the country.
Designed and produced in Hillsdale, Cobra bikes were recently ridden to victory by three youth national champions at the 2013 Red Bull Amateur National Motocross Championship in Hurricane Mills, Tenn. Riders have driven these bikes to more than 300 titles.
During a recent visit to Walter Reed National Medical Center, I met 24-year-old Sgt. Christopher Hemwall from Monroe as he underwent rehabilitation. In March 2011, he was shot three times in an ambush while serving in Afghanistan's Kandahar Province.
Eventually, Sgt. Hemwall's right leg had to be amputated below the knee after an experimental treatment failed.
Yet, in spite of these hardships, he remains committed to serving our country again after his rehab. As a nation, we must remain committed to caring for Sgt. Hemwall and all our nation's brave servicemen and women.
CHARLOTTE, Mich. (WLNS) - On Thursday morning Congressman Tim Walberg hosted a town hall meeting in Charlotte.
And dozens of community members showed up to express their frustrations.
Government spending and the possible loss of insurance policies were the biggest issues discussed at the meeting.
Though Walberg promised to take concerns back to the house, veterans and retirees say they just want him to stand firm in his promise and represent them.
The Senate passed a House bill Tuesday that would transfer some responsibility from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to the Department of Labor.

The recently released Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) September employment report certainly wasn't worth the wait. Delayed because of the government shutdown, September's jobs report disappointed as our economy added just 148,000 jobs, fewer than the previous month's and slower than the average pace of growth within the last year. Perhaps more telling, 136,000 fewer Americans participated in the labor force, keeping the labor force participation rate at its lowest level since the 1970's at 63.2%. That's in addition to the 11 million who are unemployed and actively searching for work.

Among the bipartisan pieces of legislation passed are bills that address the disability claim backlog at the Department of Veterans Affairs, improve vocational and educational opportunities for veterans, and help vulnerable disabled veterans maintain housing.
