Grant money is rolling in for the River Raisin National Battlefield.

The battlefield recently learned it has received several grants from various funding arms.

Scott Bentley, park superintendent, said the battlefield will receive $514,902 this year to produce a new film about the history and significance of the Battle of the River Raisin.

An additional $30,000 will be awarded next year as part of the grant, which came from the National Parks Service.

"We are really excited," Mr. Bentley said. "We will start by hiring a company to produce the film."

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) voted today for the Iran Terror Finance Transparency Act, bipartisan legislation that strengthens congressional oversight of U.S. sanctions against Iran and prohibits the Obama administration from lifting sanctions on individuals or banks until certifying they are not involved in terror financing, human rights abuse, or the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) today announced that the River Raisin National Battlefield Park was awarded a $21,000 grant from the National Park Service (NPS). Administered as part of the NPS's Centennial Challenge program to improve visitor services and outreach, this new grant will help the River Raisin National Battlefield Park conduct a hands-on maritime camp for students from underrepresented communities.

Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, President Obama signed into law Congressman Tim Walberg's (MI-07) bipartisan bill to increase government accountability and reduce wasteful spending. The Grants Oversight and New Efficiency (GONE) Act, introduced along with Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence (MI-14) in the House, requires federal agencies to take action to identify thousands of expired grant accounts with a zero balance that should be closed out.

JONESVILLE — United States Congressman Tim Walberg, of the 7th District, held a coffee hour yesterday at the Jonesville City Hall.

Seats filled quickly as constituents filed in to discuss current issues with Walberg and to hear an update on recent workings at the national level.

Walberg touched basis on the affordable care act, noting recent legislation put into place to combat a tax surrounding new technological devices in the medical field.

The new year has started aggressively in Washington, D. C., U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg says.

Rep. Walberg, R- Tipton, spoke Tuesday at a legislative luncheon hosted by the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce at the Monroe Golf & Country Club.

"The final year of Obama looks to be a challenging year," he said. "He has not matriculated to be a coalition- building president."

He took some time to recap the accomplishments of Congress during its last few weeks of 2015.

In recent years, we have witnessed the increasing pain and suffering inflicted by heroin and opioid addiction in communities in our districts and across the country. We, like many of our constituents, have seen firsthand how this tragic epidemic has affected our own friends and loved ones, and by sharing their stories we hope to put a face to the addiction crisis.

The statistics surrounding drug addiction and overdose are truly staggering.
