A large package of bills aimed at combating opioid abuse and addiction is heading to a conference committee in Washington D.C. after being passed by the U.S. House of Representatives.

The committee will attempt to reconcile differences with similar legislation in the U.S. Senate.

Since 1999, heroin deaths in Michigan have increased by nearly 400 percent. In order to try and and curb the problem, Michigan Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI, 7th District) sponsored 18 bills.

Walberg said, "That begins with each district de-stigmatizing the issue of addiction from simply saying it's a criminality issue to a victim issue. These are people in many cases we're finding out now who have been caught either through using pain killers or opioids and have now become addicted and find that heroin is the only alternative that meets the need and they are able to afford it."

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07), a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, today introduced the Regulatory Integrity Act to provide greater transparency to the federal government's rulemaking process. The legislation, H.R. 5226, is in response to the Environmental Protection Agency's covert propaganda efforts during the public rulemaking process for the flawed Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule.

The targeted 18 bipartisan bills that passed the House this week form a single package that will go to a conference committee with the Senate.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) continued his bipartisan work to combat the heroin and opioid epidemic by voting for the Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Reduction Act. H.R. 5046 would establish a comprehensive opioid abuse reduction program at the Department of Justice and give states and localities the flexibility to tailor prevention and treatment efforts to the specific needs of their communities.

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Congressman Tim Walberg will be hosting a Senior Resource Fair on Monday morning at the Community Health Center Community Care and Conference Center in Coldwater.

He says the event is for seniors in Branch and Hillsdale Counties.

Representatives from Walberg's office will be on hand to help seniors with various issues including Social Security and Medicare, housing assistance and veterans information.

The Senior Resources Fair will be from 10 a.m. until 12 noon.
