JACKSON, MI – Three Jackson County graduates are among six students nominated by U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg for appointment to U.S. military academies.

Walberg, R-Tipton, represents Michigan's 7th District.

The Jackson County students receiving nominations from him and offers of admission to a U.S. military academy are:

Duncan Farrant – U.S. Naval Academy. He is the son of Billy and Cindy Farrant and a Hanover-Horton High School graduate.

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) today voted for legislation opposing President Obama's proposal to increase energy prices by imposing an additional $10 tax on every barrel of oil. The House also voted to oppose a national carbon tax, another misguided attempt by the administration to raise energy costs on the American people.

Legislation proposed Thursday by two Michigan members of Congress would require the Veterans Affairs hospitals to report every three months on surgical infections and cancellations.

U.S. Reps. Debbie Dingell, D-Dearborn, and Tim Walberg, R-Tipton, introduced the bill, which comes as a reaction to concerns raised about particulate matter being found on surgical equipment trays at a VA center in Ann Arbor.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representatives Debbie Dingell (MI-12) and Tim Walberg (MI-07) today introduced legislation that would enhance transparency requirements at VA hospitals. Hospitals that receive reimbursement from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) must report a variety of quality measures to the National Healthcare Safety Network, including surgical infections. The VA Transparency Enhancement Act will help improve VA reporting requirements by bringing them more in line with other hospitals.

The bill would advance energy infrastructure development, enhance domestic energy security, and promote energy efficiency and government accountability.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) praised the House Judiciary Committee for passing the Due Process Act, bipartisan legislation he helped introduce to curb civil asset forfeiture abuse and defend the American people's due process and private property rights. The legislation incorporates many of the key provisions of the Fifth Amendment Integrity Restoration Act (FAIR Act), which Congressman Walberg introduced with Senator Rand Paul in January 2015.

Officials with the Veterans Administration Ann Arbor Health System met with two members of Michigan's congressional delegation Tuesday about problems with contaminated surgical instruments that have caused delays in some surgeries.

U.S. Reps. Tim Walberg, R-Tipton, and Debbie Dingell, D-Dearborn, met with surgical and sterile processing staff about particulate matter that started turning up on sterilized instrument trays last fall, following the repair of a water main break near the hospital's sterile processing department.
