To wrap up the weekend of celebrating Bronson's Sesquicentennial, a memorial service was held at the St. Mary's gymnasium with a community dinner following. Several distinguished guests spoke, honored veterans of the Vietnam War, and paid tribute to Bronson.

The service began with the procession of the flags by the Bronson American Legion Color Guard and the National Anthem performed by a representative group from the Bronson High School a Cappella Choir and the director, Jon Carrothers. An opening prayer was offered by Pastor Tim Rowland of the First Baptist Church.

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) announced today the 2016 Congressional App Challenge, an app competition for high school students in Michigan's 7th District. This nationwide contest is designed to highlight the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education by providing an opportunity for a student or a team of students to create an application for a mobile phone, tablet, or computer.

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) voted today for the Survivors' Bill of Rights Act, bipartisan legislation to provide protections and access to a legal process for survivors of sexual assault. H.R. 5578 ensures that sexual assault survivors in federal criminal cases have a right to a sexual assault evidence collection kit, are notified in writing before the kit is destroyed, the ability to request preservation of the kit, and are informed of important results from a forensic examination.

JACKSON, MI (WLNS) – It's been decades since the end of the Vietnam War, but today, people gathered at the Jackson County Fair to pay tribute to those who served then.

Today was a day of gratitude for Jackson-area Vietnam War vets. For many, including 67-year-old Bob Wilkinson who served in the Navy, it took him back to a much different time.

JACKSON, MI – Instead of being honored for their service, people welcomed Vietnam War veterans home after the war by spitting at them and calling them "baby killers," said Bob Wilkinson, president of Jackson's Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No.109.

More than 40 years after the end of that war, many Veterans veterans received that "thank you" Thursday morning at the Jackson County Fair.

In addition to the display of the Michigan Vietnam Veteran Traveling Memorial, the veterans were presented a pin by U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg, R-7th District.

HILLSDALE TOWNSHIP — On Thursday night, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) hosted a Vietnam veteran lapel-pinning ceremony at the Hillsdale American Legion Post 53 in commemoration of the 50-year anniversary of the Vietnam War.

"On behalf of a grateful nation, I want to say thank you for your service, for your valor and for your sacrifice," Walberg said. "When your nation called, you came."

Around 50 veterans from Hillsdale and Branch Counties were honored in the ceremony Thursday night with several family members in attendance.

Ron Niemann was among thousands of Vietnam War veterans who returned from the war only to face scorn and criticism from many Americans.

"A lot of us were treated pretty badly," the 68-year-old Army veteran recalled Monday. "They called us baby killers. We were given the choice of wearing civilian clothes instead of our uniforms."
