As 2016 draws to a close, and we look expectantly to the New Year, I'd like to thank you for the opportunity to continue to serve Michigan's 7th District and pause to reflect on the previous 12 months. In the past year, we hosted more than 40 coffee hours and townhall meetings in every corner of the district to listen to the people's priorities.
Here in Lenawee County, we held these public forums in places like the Lenawee ISD Tech Center, Family Kitchen in Adrian, Big Boy in Tecumseh, Karen's Uptown Kafe in Hudson and more locations.

Jackson, Mich. – Congressman Tim Walberg's (MI-07) bipartisan legislation to ensure living Medal of Honor recipients receive timely access to their health benefits was signed into law by President Obama this past weekend. The Medal of Honor Priority Care Act was included as part of a larger bill to enhance care and resources for veterans, the Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act.

Two members of Congress wrote to the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs on Monday demanding answers about why the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit has fallen to a one-star facility out of five stars based on an internal rating by the VA.
Reps. Debbie Dingell, D-Dearborn, and Tim Walberg, R-Tipton, said they were "disturbed" by the news and asked Secretary Robert McDonald how his agency intends to swiftly improve the performance and quality of care.

A USA TODAY/Free Press report last week revealing a low quality rating at Detroit's John D. Dingell Veterans Affairs Medical Center led two members of Congress today to ask the agency for assurances that veterans are "being properly cared for and are not in danger."

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representatives Tim Walberg (MI-07) and Debbie Dingell (MI-12) today sent a letter to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Robert McDonald seeking answers about steps that are being taken to improve performance and quality of care at the Detroit VA. The letter follows press reports that the Detroit VA Medical Center has become a one-star facility based on an internal rating system used by the VA, called the Strategic Analytics for Improvement and Learning (SAIL) database.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) today voted for the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act, a comprehensive water resources infrastructure bill to address the needs of our ports, harbors, and other waterway infrastructure critical to Michigan's economic competitiveness. The bipartisan agreement also includes provisions to reauthorize the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, dedicate resources to the Great Lakes Navigation System, and provide support for the people of Flint.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) voted today for the House-Senate conference report to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017, which funds the military, gives our troops a well-deserved pay raise, and helps keep the American people safe. Congressman Walberg served as a member of the bipartisan conference committee charged with producing the final agreement that passed the House today by a 375-34 margin.

Walberg announced the introduction of three bills Thursday, each targeting the Labor Department, as the House was taking its last votes before the Thanksgiving recess.
The Regulatory Review Act calls for the creation of an independent regulatory review commission to remove a third of the regulatory obligations created by the agency.
