Walberg: Iran Must Be Held Accountable, Not Accommodated

July 14, 2016

Washington, D.C.—To mark the one-year anniversary of the dangerous nuclear deal with Iran, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) voted this week for a series of bipartisan bills to hold Iran accountable for its terrorism activity, ballistic missile tests, human rights abuses, and other illicit behavior.

"One year later, the fatal flaws of the Iran nuclear deal are impossible to ignore. Iran has repeatedly failed to uphold its end of the agreement while the Obama administration has repeatedly failed to hold the rogue regime accountable. If we continue to turn a blind eye to Iran's provocations—conducting missile tests, detaining American sailors, financing terrorism—then it will further embolden Iran and create an even greater threat to our security interests and allies in the region. Iran must be held accountable, not accommodated, for its illicit behavior," said Walberg.

The House passed the following three bills this week:

H.R. 5119, No 2H2O from Iran Act
Prohibits funds available to any federal department or agency for any fiscal year from being obligated or expended to purchase or issue a license to purchase heavy water produced in Iran.

H.R. 4992, United States Financial System Protection Act
Prevents Iran's access to the dollar until the regime ends its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, and ceases its support for terrorism.

H.R. 5631, Iran Accountability Act
Holds Iran accountable for its state sponsorship of terrorism, its human rights abuses, and its ballistic missile program by strengthening sanctions.
