Strengthening Election Integrity

On Wednesday, House Republicans stood with the overwhelming majority of Americans who demand secure elections. I was proud to vote for the SAVE America Act, which restores public trust by requiring proof of citizenship when registering to vote, improving the ability of states to remove noncitizens from voter rolls, and requiring voter ID. Americans need a valid ID to drive a car, buy certain cold medicines, and open a bank account, yet many do not need to display a valid ID to participate in federal elections. The SAVE America Act contains commonsense provisions to keep foreign interference out of our elections and strengthen our election integrity.

Housing costs have soared beyond the reach of millions of American families, and burdensome red tape has limited our ability to expand access to affordable housing. We must remove regulatory barriers to lower housing costs and ensure that hardworking Michiganders can achieve their own American Dream. On Monday, I voted for, and the House passed the Housing for the 21st Century Act, which cuts red tape, modernizes outdated HUD programs, and unlocks capital to expand housing. These bipartisan solutions will expand supply, lower costs, and provide families with more options. Please know that I remain committed to lowering costs for hardworking Michiganders

Despite vast domestic natural resources, the United States remains heavily reliant on foreign adversaries, like China, for critical energy resources that are essential to our economic and national security. To ensure that Americans have access to affordable, reliable, and secure energy systems, on Wednesday, the House passed the Securing America’s Critical Minerals Supply Act. This bill requires the Department of Energy to conduct ongoing assessments of critical energy resource supply chains, identify vulnerabilities caused by foreign dependence, and strengthen areas at risk of disruption. We must advance innovation in domestic production and make America’s energy systems more resilient.

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Summit Township Hall and meet with Supervisor John Griffin to discuss funding I secured as a part of the appropriations process. Over the past year, I have been working with community leaders to identify and secure federal funding for needs across the district. As a result of our collective efforts, I was able to secure funding to make critical improvements to the township’s water infrastructure to improve reliability and protect the public health and safety of its residents. This federal funding will help the township construct a new wellhouse, a water main, and a booster station to improve the community’s water pressure and flow.

I had the opportunity to host a Service Academy Fair at Jackson High School to talk to students who are interested in the many opportunities our Military Service Academies have to offer and bring together representatives from the different service academies to answer their questions. I’m always amazed by their passion for and their desire to serve our country. While the application period has not yet opened for the class of 2027, interested students can view more information on the Service Academy nomination process here
