Walberg Supports Legislation to Unleash Domestic Energy, Provide Relief

Washington, D.C. -- Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) voted in favor of H.R. 1, Lower Energy Costs Act, which passed the House by a vote of 225-204. H.R. 1 would unleash American energy production and lower costs for American families by reforming the permitting process, streamlining energy infrastructure, and repealing policies advanced by the Biden administration that jeopardize America’s energy independence. Included in H.R. 1 is Rep. Walberg’s Protecting International Pipelines for Energy Security (PIPES) Act. The PIPES Act will uphold American energy security by prohibiting sole executive authority from revoking permits pertaining to the construction and operation of cross-border energy infrastructure facilities. “President Biden has waged a war on American energy, causing gas and home heating costs to rise to unaffordable levels,” said Rep Walberg. “H.R. 1 signals a return to energy dominance and unleashes domestic production, providing much-needed relief for families and workers nationwide. By passing this crucial legislation, we will create more American jobs, foster innovation, and put America back on track to achieve an energy-independent future. I am also pleased to see my PIPES Act included in H.R. 1, as it will prevent executive overreach from shutting down safe and essential pipelines, like Line 5, without Congressional approval. There is no doubt the House is building a stronger future by prioritizing legislation like H.R. 1.”
Provisions of H.R. 1 include:
- Reforming the permitting process to streamline federal reviews, including for essential energy infrastructure
- Securing America’s critical minerals supply by increasing domestic production and processing of resources
- Prohibiting the President from declaring a moratorium on the use of hydraulic fracturing
- Repealing royalties and fee increases imposed on energy production that raise energy prices
- Eliminating restrictions on the import and export of oil and natural gas
- Requiring the Department of the Interior to resume sales for the leasing of oil and gas resources on federal lands and water
