Walberg's PROTECT Kids Act Advanced by Committee

Washington, D.C. -- The Education and the Workforce Committee voted to adopt the text of Rep. Tim Walberg's (MI-05) Parental Rights Over the Education and Care of Their (PROTECT) Kids Act during a markup of H.R. 5, Parents Bill of Rights Act. The PROTECT Kids Act would require any federally funded elementary or middle school to seek and acquire parental consent before changing their child’s pronouns, gender markers, or preferred name on any school form. This includes allowing a child to change their sex-based accommodations, such as locker rooms or bathrooms.
“It is unconscionable that some believe that parents should be kept in the dark regarding gender transitions of their own children,” said Rep. Walberg. “I am pleased to see the Education and the Workforce Committee advance the text of PROTECT Kids as an amendment to H.R. 5, and ensure that schools do not hide important information about children from their own parents. I look forward to continuing my work with colleagues to enshrine this critical piece of legislation that will increase transparency and defend the God-given authority and rights of parents.”
