Walberg Votes to Modernize Permitting Process to Lower Energy Costs

December 18, 2025

Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) voted in favor of the Standardizing Permitting and Expediting Economic Development (SPEED) Act. This legislation would simplify and streamline the permitting process by shortening timelines for permitting approvals, preventing frivolous lawsuits, and restoring the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to its intended scope.

"The United States' unreasonably complex and costly permitting process stands in the way of ensuring Americans have access to reliable and affordable energy," said Rep Walberg. "I was proud to support the SPEED Act, which will streamline the permitting process, so we can build critical energy infrastructure, boost economic development, and most importantly, lower energy costs for hardworking families. House Republicans will continue to work to improve affordability for Michiganders."

Congressman Walberg serves as a member of the House Committee on Natural Resources and voted earlier this year to advance the SPEED Act through the committee for consideration on the House floor.
