South Michigan News: Walberg applauds Supreme Court decision on women's sports protections

Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg said on June 30 that he supports the Supreme Court’s decision regarding protections for women’s sports. In a statement, Walberg said, “Women’s sports are for women. Unfortunately, radical gender ideology bolstered by policies pushed under the Biden-Harris administration chipped away at Title IX protections. As a result, the very female athletes the law was meant to empower were sidelined in the name of ‘equality.’ I’m grateful these Justices rejected the political rhetoric and stood up for fairness, common sense, and the integrity of women's sports. Committee Republicans will always stand with women athletes and their fight for a level playing field.”

The statement follows legislative actions in Congress related to Title IX. On January 14, 2025, House Republicans passed H.R. 28, known as the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025. This legislation amends Title IX to protect its original intent concerning women’s athletics.

Additionally, on July 11, 2024, the House passed H.J. Res. 165 under the Congressional Review Act to nullify a Title IX rule issued by the Biden-Harris administration.

The House Education and Workforce Committee manages federal programs concerning education, labor, health and workforce development; influences policy on issues such as student loans and worker protections; and serves in the legislative sector with jurisdiction over education and labor matters, according to the official website.
