Walberg Statement on President Trump’s National Emergency Declaration
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) today released the following statement after voting against the Democrats’ resolution, H.J. Res. 46, to block President Trump's declaration of a national emergency to confront the crisis at the southern border.
“There is a crisis at the southern border that requires greater action to protect our nation. Sadly, Speaker Pelosi is more interested in show votes than legislative solutions to the border crisis. Time after time, Democratic leadership has obstructed any meaningful attempt to give Border Patrol agents the tools they need—more personnel, technology, and physical barriers—to secure the border and crack down on drug cartels and human traffickers. These circumstances have given President Trump no other option but to use his authority to declare an emergency to help keep the American people safe. We must secure the border.”
Congressman Walberg serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the House Education and Labor Committee as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions. For more information on Walberg's work in Congress visit walberg.house.gov.
