USMCA a win for Michigan

Image
After hearing about the need to finalize the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) for months from farmers and manufacturers across the district, a deal has been reached and the trade agreement will finally proceed. This is tremendous news for workers in Michigan. President Trump has consistently fought for better trade deals, and his leadership is once again delivering results for our country. I look forward to the House voting on USMCA and finally moving on from an outdated NAFTA.

Lower Drug Costs, More Cures Act

Image

This week, I took to the floor to advocate for a bipartisan solution to bring down the cost of drug prices, while not risking future cures. The Lower Costs, More Cures Act puts a cap on seniors’ out-of-pocket costs for the first time ever, makes insulin more affordable, increases transparency in pricing, cuts the cost of drug administration, and creates a new trade negotiator so America will no longer subsidize the world’s drug innovation. The Lower Costs, More Cures Act will allow life-saving cures to come to market. The provisions in this legislation have passed out of Energy and Commerce Committee and other congressional committees on a bipartisan basis and could be signed into law. Strengthening our Military

Image

Our men and women in uniform, and their families, sacrifice every day for the freedoms we hold dear. This week, I was proud to vote for a bipartisan defense bill to strengthen our national security, increase modernization efforts, and give our troops a pay raise. I look forward to the President signing this legislation supporting our military into law.

Anti-Robocall Legislation Passes House

Image

On a daily basis, families in Michigan are faced with a non-stop stream of unwanted robocalls. It’s completely out of hand, so I was happy to help pass the TRACED Act, a bipartisan agreement between the House and Senate to crack down on illegal robocalls. The legislation includes a provision I championed to combat one-ring scams, a robocall scheme that tricks consumers into paying huge hidden fees on return phone calls. Coffee Hour in Bedford

Image

Recently, I hosted a coffee hour in Bedford Township to discuss the issues that matter to you. We talked about the ongoing partisan impeachment efforts in the House, but also talked about the policies that are impacting daily life. The latest jobs report showed we have reached a 50-year low in the unemployment rate, wages are rising, and agreements like USMCA will further improve our economy. Prescription drug prices, protecting our Great Lakes, and funding the military were also focal points of the discussion.
