National Small Business Week
National Small Business Week
It’s National Small Business Week, and we celebrate the many amazing small businesses in Michigan who drive our economy and contribute so much to our communities. I had the chance to visit a number of small businesses this week, including About the Home in downtown Grand Ledge. From tax relief to regulatory reform, I will continue working to grow a healthy economy where small businesses can thrive.
Expanding Broadband Deployment
Expanding broadband deployment is important so that residents are connected and can enjoy greater economic opportunity. This week, I hosted a roundtable discussion in Chelsea with FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr about the need to get more broadband to more Americans. Thank you to the panelists from the Chelsea School District, Chelsea Chamber of Commerce, and local small businesses who offered their insights on this issue.
Strengthening Career and Technical Education
This week, I had the chance to tour the Hillsdale Area Career Center, where I met a number of students involved in the center’s trades classes. The Career Center offers a variety of skills classes, including construction trades, welding, cybersecurity and digital forensics, engineering and CAD, criminal justice and health sciences. As a member of the Education and the Workforce Committee, I’m working to strengthen career and technical education to help students prepare for a variety of career paths.
Hearing Your Priorities
I held coffee hours in Bedford Township, Coldwater, Grand Ledge, Spring Arbor, and Summit Township to discuss the benefits of the new tax cut law, answer questions, and listen to what issues are on people's minds. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and I look forward to continuing to hear from you as I travel to every corner of the district.
Washtenaw County Veterans Fair
Congresswoman Debbie Dingell and I hosted our 4th annual Veterans Fair at VFW Post 423 in Washtenaw County this week. I’m grateful to all the organizations that joined us and provide health care, counseling, employment, and a wide variety of services. Michigan’s veterans deserve access to the very best care and benefits, and we’ll keep working in a bipartisan way to help our local heroes.
