Getting Results for You

In the first few months of the 117th Congress, I've hit the ground running and introduced a series of bipartisan bills. Already, I've led efforts to protect Social Security, improve the implementation of rural broadband, and have introduced bipartisan legislation to:

  • Crack down on scams targeting seniors
  • Better equip our workforce for telecommunications jobs
  • Make needed updates to online privacy laws to protect children

I am committed to getting results for our district, whether that’s helping with casework concerns or advancing commonsense legislation. In doing so, I was named as Michigan’s most effective member in the 115th Congress by a non-partisan academic group, the Center for Effective Lawmaking. Recently that same organization named me as the most effective Republican in all of Congress on technology issues.

Biden's Border Crisis

Last month, there were more than 100,000 apprehensions at the southern border—an 173% increase from February 2020. There is an escalating crisis at the southern border, and President Biden’s misguided immigration policies are making it worse by the day. Not only is this problem being ignored by the executive branch, the House passed legislation this week further incentivizing illegal border crossings and further worsening this issue. I will continue to advocate for policies to secure the border and enforce our immigration laws.

Paycheck Protection Program Extension

Throughout the pandemic, so many of our local small businesses have encountered one hardship after another. This week, I supported the Paycheck Extension Act of 2021, which extends the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) from the current date of March 31 to the new date of May 31 and gives the Small Business Administration an additional 30 days to process loans. This program has been a vital lifeline, allowing employers to continue to make payroll and other expenses.

For more information on the PPP, please call my Jackson District Office at (517) 780-9075, or visit

Meeting with Local Officials

Earlier in the week, I met with Adrian Mayor Angela Sword Heath to get an update on our community, as I frequently do with local officials around the 7th District. We discussed economic development, defeating and recovering from COVID-19, and other important issues.

Vaccine Update

Many businesses across our state have been playing a critical role in vaccine production and distribution. At Protomatic's facility in Dexter, they design and manufacture precision parts for the aerospace and medical industries. Recently, I had the opportunity to hear more about their work, including a part to help with vaccine distribution.

Beginning Monday, March 22, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) officials will expand vaccination eligibility for Michiganders ages 16 and older with disabilities or medical conditions that put them at high risk of negative COVID-19 outcome.

Beginning April 5, 2021, all Michiganders age 16 years and older are eligible to be vaccinated.
