Traveling Home With President Trump

President Trump graciously invited me on Air Force One to travel with him to his speech in Warren. We had a great conversation about the positive impact of USMCA, which was signed into law this week, on our Michigan farmers and manufacturers, as well as many other topics related to boosting our Michigan economy. Among them were the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, the Soo Locks, and boosting activity at the Port of Monroe.

Coffee Hours in Milan and Onsted

This week, I hosted coffee hours in Milan and Onsted to listen to concerns in our community. Among the topics we discussed at these events was lowering drug prices with the Lower Costs, More Cures Act. This bipartisan bill would put a cap on seniors’ out-of-pocket costs for the first time ever, make insulin more affordable, increase transparency in pricing, and cut the cost of drug administration. We also discussed the renegotiated trade deals which will continue to boost our economy.

Fighting the Opioid Crisis

With a dangerous deadline approaching, the House voted to extend the DEA's ability to classify fentanyl analogues in the same scheduling category as fentanyl. Every year tens of thousands of lives are lost due to synthetic opioids so we must be proactive in our fight and responsive to drug traffickers’ tactics to flout the law. While the bipartisan legislation will greatly assist law enforcement in the fight against the synthetic opioid crisis, I took to the House floor to urge my colleagues to not just extend the time period for these scheduling changes, but to make these changes permanent.

Bedford Business Summit

I was able to stop by the Bedford Business Summit recently to discuss how to support small businesses and further grow our economy. To continue our positive momentum, we need to build a skilled workforce to match the 7 million jobs currently going unfilled across the United States. I’m encouraged by local educational institutions that are placing a priority on career and technical education.

Touring Construction at River Raisin Battlefield Park

I was thankful to be given a tour of the construction taking place at River Raisin National Battlefield in Monroe. The new visitor center will be a great addition to the park and will help further display the importance of the Battle of the River Raisin in the War of 1812. For generations to come, people will "Remember the Raisin!"
