Fighting the Opioid Crisis

This week, I joined with a panel of local law enforcement and recovery advocates to speak with students at Adrian High School about the dangers of drug addiction. We lose more than 100 Americans every day to the opioid crisis, devastating the dreams of people we know and love. To help fight back, the House passed landmark legislation this week, the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act, which includes two bipartisan bills I authored with Congresswoman Debbie Dingell.

Honoring our Veterans

It was an honor to take part in a ceremony at the Hillsdale County Fair to recognize this year's Veteran of the Year and pay tribute to our local heroes. We are forever indebted to those who answered America’s call to service. It is our duty to uphold our commitments to our veterans, and in Congress, I am working to ensure they have access to timely, high quality care.

Recognizing an Angel in Adoption

Emily Wilburn from Jackson is a special education teacher and the mother of Raya, age 4, and Teddy, age 2. I had the privilege of meeting Emily this week and recognizing her as the 2018 Angel in Adoption from Michigan's 7th District. By opening her home through fostering and adoption, Emily has forever changed and enriched the lives of two wonderful kids.

Strengthening Retirement Security

For too many families in Michigan, it is a constant struggle to put money away for retirement. By passing the Family Savings Act, which includes a bipartisan provision I authored, workers and families will have access to more and better tools to help them save for the future. After decades of hard work, every American should be empowered to retire with financial security.

Guardian of Small Business Award

It was an honor to be named a Guardian of Small Business by the National Federation of Independent Business this week. Here in Michigan's 7th District, I regularly visit with local job creators to hear what’s on their mind and how we can give them tools for success. I will continue to champion policies that spur job growth, boost economic opportunity, and help small businesses flourish.
