Expanding Rural Broadband Access

This week I led a bipartisan group of my colleagues in urging the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to improve the accuracy of broadband availability maps to better identify unserved and underserved communities in Michigan. It is imperative that our communities have affordable and reliable broadband in order to conduct effective business, quality education, and receive the most modern healthcare. Additionally, I questioned FCC Chairman Ajit Pai about his agency's work to improve broadband mapping and deployment to rural communities. To view my questions, please click this link

Helping our Veterans

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and I hosted our annual Washtenaw County Veterans Fair this week. These fairs allow veterans to learn more about services offered by the VA, connect with veterans organizations, and be recognized for their service to our country. Helping our nation's heroes is a commitment that goes beyond political party lines and I will continue working in a bipartisan way to improve the lives of veterans.

Lowering Prescription Drug Prices

The importance of tackling out-of-control prescription drugs costs is a bipartisan issue. On the Energy and Commerce Committee, we passed three drug pricing bills with overwhelming bipartisan support. We had an opportunity to pass those bills this week and provide meaningful relief to people who are struggling. Unfortunately, House Democrats needlessly attached partisan provisions to these bills, putting political point scoring over problem solving.

Strengthening Retirement Security

I participated in a panel with Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE) hosted by The Hill on the topic of strengthening retirement security. Putting away enough money for retirement is a major concern for Michigan families, and we have introduced bipartisan legislation that will give employees more tools to help them save for the future.

Speaking with Students

This week Hudson Middle School visited the Capitol. These bright young students asked some great questions about how Congress works and the experiences I've had throughout my time as an elected official.
