Addressing PFAS Contamination

Tim Walberg PFAS hearing

PFAS contamination is a nationwide problem, and what’s happening in Michigan right now should be a wake-up call to all of us. This week, the Subcommittee on Environment held a hearing on this issue with witnesses from the Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Defense, and the Director of Michigan’s PFAS Action Response Team. With all the serious concerns surrounding PFAS, it is critical to get to the bottom of it and take immediate action.

Supporting Domestic Violence Victims

I spoke on the House floor this week about the importance of reauthorizing the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act. I am proud to be a cosponsor of this vital legislation that for over 30 years has been protecting and seeking justice for victims of domestic violence. This bipartisan legislation also helps support domestic violence shelters across the country, including places like the SIREN/Eaton Shelter, Inc. in Charlotte.

Reducing Medicaid Fraud, Protecting Patients

Medicaid Fraud Control Units play a vital role in cracking down on Medicaid provider fraud, protecting beneficiaries from abuse, and bringing bad actors to justice. My bipartisan legislation, which is supported by the National Association of Attorneys General, will improve the ability of these units to investigate patient abuse or neglect. I was pleased to see this bill advance unanimously through the Health Subcommittee this week.

Improving Financial Aid Counseling

With my support, the House passed the Empowering Students through Enhanced Financial Counseling Act this week. This bipartisan bill will promote access to financial counseling so students better understand the process and receive personalized advice that speaks to their situation. Encouraging financial literacy is an important step to help prepare students for a successful future.

Supporting Military Spouses

This week, I had the honor of helping assemble care packages for spouses of deployed military members. Thanks to the USO for organizing the event and supporting our troops and their families. To learn more about their Salute to Military Spouses initiative, click here.
